Throughout the year there are many exciting and unique opportunities that Memorial Fund volunteers participate in and organize, such as the Connecticut Law Enforcement Memorial 5K.

In 2010, while an undergraduate in criminal justice, Guardian Lisa Pudlo sensed a need among her law enforcement friends for an annual event that engages her community to remember the sacrifice of fallen officers. Lisa wanted to strengthen a  sense of comradery with Connecticut law enforcement officers and decided to organize a 5K run. She created the annual Connecticut Law Enforcement Memorial 5K held at the end of October or beginning of November. The event has grown over the last four years to include more than 500 registered participants and raise more than $39,000.

Lisa selected the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund as the sole benefactor of the event, which has grown to include not only individual participants but police academy classes. Each year surpasses the prior year’s success and it fills the need in the local community. Lisa is now a doctoral candidate in criminal justice at Northeastern University researching law enforcement policy.

On behalf of the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund, we thank Lisa Pudlo for her passion and steadfast support. If you’re interested in learning more about how Lisa organizes her 5K each year, she welcomes emails (lisa.pudlo@gmail.com).
